San Antonio has a long and storied street food tradition, dating back to the 19th century when the original “chili queens” became a legendary part of city life. Working from closely-guarded family recipes, these self-reliant lady entrepreneurs set up stalls in San Antonio’s bustling plazas where they literally invented Tex-Mex, serving up hot bowls of what would become the official state food: chili con carne.
Chamoy City Limits originally opened in 2012 as a food truck serving Tex-Mex classics and specializing in historic chili queens beef chili. The truck was called “The Institute of Chili” and we were known as the modern-day “Chili Queens”. Our chili was named “Best Chili in America” by Food & Wine Magazine (November 2013) and we’ve been written about in many national publications like USA Today, Huffington Post, Travel & Leisure, Southern Living, Latina Magazine and more.
Chamoy City Limits carries on the culinary legacy of those feisty street food pioneers. Our Chamoy starts with real fruit and whole chili peppers, the traditional way. We specialize in hand-crafted chili pepper syrups, pickled fruits and candied peppers. Our beef chili is made from scratch using fresh and dried peppers and the finest quality beef. We believe house-made beats factory-made hands down, and like the original chili queens, we hand-craft everything we make with love.
